Four-bed detached homes in Cork city
Dunkerrin, Mount Oval, Rochestown, Cork
Some two decades after the sod was turned at Mount Oval Village, a 110ac mixed residential development high up on Clarke's Hill in Rochestown, sales of the final new-builds in the 810-home scheme are being wrapped up.
O'Flynn Construction first began work on Mount Oval in the 1990s and the vast development was earmarked for completion by 2008. But building on the final sections was thwarted by the collapse of the property market. After exiting Nama and battling for survival with US private equity house Blackstone, O'Flynn resumed building.
The 14-unit Dunkerrin, laid out in a cul-de-sac, was finally launched off the plans last summer. All are nearly built and 10 of the sold houses are due to be occupied soon. Remaining are four four-bed detached dwellings, each with 1,708 sq ft of accommodation over two floors.
The homes, selling for €500,000 apiece, have extensive landscaped gardens, a cobbled driveway and railings to the front. Inside, glazed double doors to the left of the hallway lead to the front reception room with wood-burning stove and fireplace surround. To the rear is a kitchen/dining/family space, with double doors opening onto the lawn. A conservatory-style glazed area allows in extra light.
An air-to-water heat pump for the central heating system contributes to the houses' A3 rating.
Mount Oval is only a few minutes' drive to the South Ring Road. Douglas village is 4km away and the centre of Cork is 10km.
