Boom-era development in Youghal back with a bang

Parklands, Youghal, Co Cork

Parklands, a hillside estate that overlooks the East Cork seaside town of Youghal, was originally built during the Boom era. However, the scheme has since been taken over by a new developer, Redbarn Youghal Construction Ltd, which is now finishing out the estate.

The first phase of seven new units at Parklands was launched on March 1 and there are four from the tranche presently available. There will be 37 homes sold at the scheme throughout a series of phases.

Despite having their origins in a decade-old scheme, the properties qualify for the Government's Help-To-Buy scheme for new builds, according to the selling agent. Most of the first-time buyers drawn to the development are locals or people priced out of the Cork City market who are prepared to live in Youghal and commute to the city, a 56km drive away.

All the houses in the first phase are three-beds, with prices ranging from €142,000 to €150,000. Two of the homes are semi-detached, two are end-of-terrace and three are mid-terrace styles.

There is a garden and decking to the rear of each home.

Interior touches include timber flooring, grey Italian ceramic tiles, a free-standing log-burning stove in the living room's solid oak-surround fireplace and built-in wardrobes in the bedrooms. The kitchens come with solid oak worktops and upstands as well as integrated appliances.

The properties, which each have an oil-fired central heating system, have a BER of B2 or B3.

Viewings at Parklands will be held on Thursday from 4.30pm-5.30pm.
