Your questions

I want to get a bit more scent into my pots and have limited room to grow big plants. Can you suggest some easy-to-grow plants?

I love nothing better than night-scented stock teamed with sweetly scented stock for both a colourful and fragrant display in the summer.

For the price of a packet of seeds, you can scatter night-scented stock into your pots and then add in the sweetly scented stock when they come into the garden centres.

For spring, I would add miniature daffodils – go for the highly scented ones. Narcissus 'Hawera' and Narcissus 'Sun Disc' are two of my favourites, both only growing to around 18cm.

Can you recommend some long-flowering plants for my new garden?

The following plants are some of my particular favourites:

1. Coronilla valentina subsp glauca 'Citrina'

2. Salvia

3. Fuchsia 'Genii'

4. Calceolaria

5. Penstemon 'Alice Hindley'

6. Standard Rosa 'Iceberg'

7. Daphne bholua 'Jacqueline Postill'
