You'll reap rewards here, but only if you're selling farmland

The Market:

Although there is a healthy demand for farms and land, residential prices in the county continue to falter and remain up to 70% lower than peak. Very few properties are selling and there is a glut of everything from family homes to apartments with tax breaks.

The county remains one of the cheapest in the country for property and it can take as long as a year to close a sale.

In the first signs of recovery, however, Roscommon Town and some of the other larger population centres did see a surge of sorts with detached family homes rising 15% and semis by about 5%.

In contrast, property prices were static or falling in other remoter parts of the county.

Overall it seems likely that the contrasting fortunes resulted in a slight annual rise of 3% with more of the same predicted for next year amidst similar market conditions.

Extensions and self-builds are the order of the day in what little construction activity there is and many are seeking to rent rather than buy in a 'wait and see' mode.

British-based buyers continue to make some impact in this county, but no more than usual.
