St Alban's Abbey in Hertfordshire, England, is famous for magnificent stained-glass windows, created in honour of its eponymous Saint. According to legend, he was being led to his execution at the site while suffering from a terrible thirst.

He prayed for help and the man above duly obliged by creating a spring for him to drink from right at his feet. His head was removed at that spot.

These days, Alban would only have to pop into one of the many salubrious watering holes in Sandymount Village to quench his thirst on the road named after him, which also features magnificent stained-glass windows. N082 is a three-bed semi-detached built in the 1930s and the owners have kept many of its original period features intact.

The red-brick curved exterior is the first giveaway, with large bay windows upstairs and down. Inside, ceiling covings, panelled doors and fireplaces add to the period feel. But it is the interior lobby with its full-size leaded stained-glass doors and fanlight that is most impressive.

The accommodation extends to 1,614 sq ft and the drawing room is the main reception room (with the Bay); there is a fireplace here and it is nicely finished with minimal, but period appropriate, furniture. There is a separate formal dining room and glass doors have been placed between it and the modern kitchen/diner extension (although the elaborate satin drapes also act as a great room divider).

This room is dual aspect, with the back wall fully glassed - doors lead out to the long and landscaped back garden, which has a patio area and raised flower beds.

Cupboards and fittings are white, with contrast black granite worktops, and an island unit has storage and a sink. There is plenty of room for a table and chairs here too. The ground floor also has a guest WC. Upstairs are three bedrooms. The master is ensuite and features the other bay window and a cast-iron fireplace.

There is a separate family bathroom which has a tub and dual sinks. From here, there is access to a floored attic, adding storage capacity.
