Show houses open as sales pick up
A healthy pick-up of sales activity in some new housing developments is reported by two agents and is reflected in the opening of an extra 10 show houses this weekend.
"With an average of 23 sales per month at Clare Village on the Malahide Road, Dublin 17 since October, sales activity has been as strong as it was at market peak," says Ronan O'Driscoll, residential director at Savills. However he acknowledges that some of the agency's other developments achieved sales of less than 10 over the same period.
"The key factors in Clare Village are the sharp 60pc discount to market peak prices as well as the complete fit-out including flooring and appliances," he adds.
"Of the 115 sales over the period as many as 45 have been occupied which explodes the myth that it's difficult to get a mortgage," he adds.
Meanwhile Gina Kennedy of Douglas Newman Good reports 19 sales at six different Dublin developments in the last 10 days.
"Some of the buyers had mortgage approval for more than six months and after shopping around appear to have decided that now is the time to buy," she adds.
Among the showhouses open in Kildare tomorrow is Capella Court where a receiver is selling apartments.
