On the market: Three great properties in Stillorgan
Independent Property rates three properties in terms of location, price and value for money.
Charles Sheils was a wealthy merchant from County Down who, on his death in 1861, left £90,000 for the provision of rent-free accommodation for impoverished widows and spinsters.
Among the housing built by Sheils' charity in 1869 was Arkle Square, at The Chase in Stillorgan, a group of Victorian granite cottages laid out around a courtyard, with a central clock tower that still works.
Number 3 Arkle Square is a 1,098 sq t terraced house with two bedrooms. It has an open-plan living room and dining room on the ground floor, as well as the kitchen. The two bedrooms, one ensuite on the first floor, along with a shower room.

Lawnswood Park is a cul de sac housing estate off Brewery Road in Stillorgan, about five minutes' drive from the M50. Number 20 looks different from its neighbours, though, having been extended to 1,884 sq ft.
It has five bedrooms and three reception rooms. The living room, with marble fireplace, has double doors to the dining room, and at the back of the house there's a family room with patio doors to the garden.
There's also a study or playroom at the front, and a guest toilet off the hall. The five bedrooms are upstairs, along with a family bathroom and a shower room.

Beaufield Park in Stillorgan is around the corner, more or less, from Stillorgan Shopping Centre. You could practically push your trolley home.

There's a hall with a fireplace, and a family room, also with a fireplace, as well as two kitchens and a guest toilet. The house has six bedrooms, two of which come with a shower stall. And there are two bathrooms, one of which has a free-standing bath.
The front driveway has space to park several cars, while the back garden faces southeast and has a deck. Heating for both the house and the granny flat is gas-fired, though the systems are independent.
Number 4 is about three minutes' drive from the Stillorgan Road. It's on the market for €575,000 with Young's Estate Agents (01 497 5581).
