New home view: Going old school with Donabate red bricks
Portrane NS renovated into College Court apartments and townhouses

With the Leaving Cert on, it's somewhat fitting that this old renovated schoolhouse scheme is launching this weekend.
Portrane National School, a late 19th century red-brick building complete with bell tower, is quaintly split into 'boys' and 'girls' halves. However, these days, each houses two three-bedroom apartments rather than classrooms, and has been renamed College Court, developed by Xestra Asset Management.
Each has a large kitchen/dining room with contemporary soft-close matt cupboards and a full set of appliances, while the upstairs units also have a kitted-out utility room.
There are three bedrooms (one is small and might be a study or even walk-in wardrobe) and a bathroom of decent size, along with a living room.
Instead of poky balconies, each apartment has its own proper outside garden - which has been decked or grassed and fenced off - overlooked by large mature trees.
They also come with secure lock-ups for assorted bikes, sports gear etc. The interior is an unusual design, given the workaround with the old structure, but it is nonetheless appealing.
Priced from €242,500-€252,500 depending on aspect, these are well placed in the first-time buyer market.
Adjacent to the building are four five-bed terraced refurbished townhouses (one has been sold).
These are a spacious 1,850 sq ft over three floors, all south-facing, with a living room up front, a kitchen/dining room and a protruding sunroom/playroom extended out back.
There is a utility and WC at this level also. On the first floor are three bedrooms and the family bathroom with one ensuite, while the second floor has the remaining two bedrooms in the eaves (although one could equally be an office or den).
There is another bathroom here. These will be marketed from €405,000-€415,000. There will be a detached two-bed house coming on stream also later in the year.
Annual management fees will be €745 for the apartments and €370 for the houses. Donabate is not far off the M1 motorway and just past Newbridge Demesne on a newly surfaced road. The village itself has a variety of shops and restaurants, schools, a community centre and the train station, which gives easy and regular access to the city. It is a few minutes' walk from College Court.
The beach is less than 3km away while Dublin Airport is 12km. Between the two are Portmarnock and Malahide villages, and golf clubs, to the East.
Viewing is by appointment.
