Apartment owners can avail of five-star Park Hotel's facilities and services

Buyers of apartments at The Retreats can check into the Park Hotel in Kenmare and never leave - the luxury homes are on the wooded grounds of the five-star hotel.

They'll also have TV personalities John and Francis Brennan, who run the hotel in the Kingdom, at their service because the residents will be treated the same as any guest at The Park, albeit in the privacy of their own home.

The hotel provides residents with a complete housekeeping and linen service, a 24-hour concierge, home dining, chauffeurs, fresh flowers, and personal shopping facilities, if required. The owners will also have private access to the SAMAS spa and fitness centre, which has a lap pool built into its limestone grounds. They can also enjoy the 12 acres of parkland overlooking Kenmare Bay that adjoins an 18-hole golf course.

The Brennan brothers commissioned builder KPH to construct The Retreats, which were then completed in May 2008, just four months before the property market imploded. While some units have sold since then, the launch of the apartments on to the open market was shelved until last year.

Of the 18 apartments at The Retreats, 12 units are still available. The purchasers to date have come from the rest of Ireland, the UK, and the USA, and use the apartments as second homes. The lease specifies that the apartments be owner-occupied, so they cannot be let out.

Prices start at €495,000 to €525,000 for a two-bed unit. However, there is also the option to convert two of the apartments into one large four-bed that spans two floors and could give the buyer a kitchen/dining/living room, a separate sitting room, a couple of terraces, and four ensuite bedrooms, including one master bedroom. This option would cost from €995,000.

The 18 apartments are located in a three-storey gated development with a natural stone façade, western red cedar cladding, glass balustrades for the balconies and terraces and double-glazed timber-framed windows. Each resident will share a landing with just one other apartment. An oak-floored entrance hall leads to an open-plan living space that's flooded by light from floor-to-ceiling windows.

The two master bedrooms in each apartment also have balconies overlooking the gardens, built-in Italian wardrobes, and en-suites (one of which has a wet room) and marble tiling.

Off each living room is a so-called "lifestyle studio", namely a flexible space that can be configured into a four-seater film screening room, music room or library. The interior design was carried out by Viscount David Linley, Queen Elizabeth II's nephew.

Each apartment has its own temperature-controlled wine cellar, stocked by some of Ireland's leading wine suppliers. A panic button to the hotel and a CCTV system for the path to The Park can ease the minds of security-conscious residents or those who need extra care.

While all of the apartments have outdoor living space, those at penthouse level have roof-top terraces with built-in barbeques. There are two designated parking spaces in the underground car park for each apartment. Kenmare is 60km from the airport at Farranfore and 20km from Tralee.
