If you are looking for a country retreat, then Monckswood Lodge, which was part of the old Charleville Estate, could be right down your country lane.

This elegant villa is set within 3.5ac of its own idyllic grounds overlooking a water meadow for the river Dargle, enjoying frontage onto the Killough River and with some wonderful mature woodland, giving great privacy.

It is also set directly opposite the gates to Charleville House, inside its own fine granite-pillared entrance.

The house itself dates from around 1797 and is one of four identical lodges built across the Charleville Estate by Charles Stanley, the First Viscount Monck of Charleville. Enjoying a spectacular setting, the location of Monckswood is equally impressive, being 3km from the attractive village of Enniskerry and only 4km from the scenic Powerscourt Waterfall.

The original lodge house was extended about 40 years ago and, more recently, improvements were undertaken, with the plumbing and heating completely renewed. Much of the original period character remains, from the solid granite columned portico at the entrance, through to the diamond-paned leaded windows, copper guttering and elaborately carved bargeboards.

And, for nature lovers, the grounds are home to many different wild animals and birds. Don't be surprised to see a stray deer grazing on your lawn some morning.
