Making the most of the view
Cuan an Aoibhnis, Co Waterford €249k
A couple of decades ago, a visit to Ring in Co Waterford was like stepping back in time. The small Gaeltacht area had a community of Irish speakers who were passionate about music and culture.
Things have changed over the years as new developments were built and blow-ins were drawn in by views of the beautiful Ring peninsula jutting into Dungarvan Bay.
The survival of Ring as a Gaeltacht region is partly down to Colaiste na Rinne, the renowned Irish language school that takes students in over the summer and boarders throughout the year. For many teenagers, it's their first taste of independence and a chance to fall in love with their native language.
Cuan an Aoibhnis is a two-bed cottage just outside Ring village, at Gortnadiha, Robert's Cross. The owners made sure they made the most of the aforementioned view with floor-to-ceiling windows at the back of the house and a glass balcony looking out over the bay.
Accommodation is made up of an open-plan living area that incorporates the kitchen, living room and dining room. The kitchen is fitted with cream-coloured units and has a cream stove installed to match.
A breakfast bar divides the space and the living area is small but very bright, with doors out to the balcony.
The main bedroom has an en suite bathroom with a freestanding bath. The second bedroom is currently set as a twin room and also has an en suite bathroom with shower.
There is a large garden to the rear, mostly set in lawn, with a barbecue area.
There are two timber sheds and an outhouse that is being used as a utility room but could be converted into a home office or workshop.
Cuan an Aoibhnis is for sale through Denise Radley Auctioneers, (058) 42168, with a guide price of €249,000.
