Parkgarriff House, at Laurel Hill in Monkstown, Co Cork, no longer exists. Its extensive estate is now Monkstown Golf Club.
The gate lodge to Parkgarriff no longer exists either, but it has been replaced by this recently-built homage on the same site.
Built 12 years ago, Parkgarriffe Lodge has acquired an 'e', along with various other advantages.
For one thing, it's a bit of a Tardis, with dainty exterior proportions belying 2,027 sq ft of floor space inside. It also has a C1 energy rating, which the original lodge would certainly never have been able to claim.
The entrance hall has an oak floor and is big enough to be furnished with a reading nook, and there's a guest toilet off it.
To the left is a triple-aspect family room with a reclaimed pitch pine floor and an open fire, and there's a door here to a patio out the back. To the right is a dual-aspect living room with another fireplace and two sets of double doors - one in a bay, opening to the grounds, and the other to the kitchen at the back of the house.
The kitchen has painted wood cabinets with walnut countertops, and there's a kitchen island with a breakfast bar, as well as an extensively-glazed lean-to dining area.
Off the kitchen is a utility room with a door leading to the patio.
Upstairs, past a skylit landing, are a bathroom and three bedrooms, one of which has an en-suite with a spa corner bath and separate shower.
The garden is lawned and, in addition to the patio behind the house, there's a separate seating area in a neat side garden, all surrounded by mature trees.
The agent for the property is Sherry FitzGerald Cork, (021) 427 3041, and the asking price is €485,000.
Parkgarriffe Lodge is on view tomorrow (Saturday 7th) from 1pm to 1.30pm.
