1 Rockmount

Rockmount dates back to Kilkee's heyday as a favourite bathing place of the Victorian aristocracy. Thackeray, Tennyson and Charlotte Brontë were among the most famous visitors to the west Clare resort. Number 1 Rockmount is one of a pair of august semi-detached houses in Kilkee's West End, facing east and directly overlooking the horseshoe beach, and it's a protected structure. It has five bedrooms on the first floor, while on the ground floor there's a drawing room with two windows overlooking the sea, and an eat-in kitchen with doors to the raised back garden, as well as a utility and shower room.

Coast Guard Station, Britfieldstown

Coast Guard Station

Early Ordnance Survey maps suggest this exquisitely pretty waterfront cottage was originally a boat house for the coastguard station at Robert's Cove, Britfieldstown, Co Cork. At basement level there's a slipway, for emergency launches if you spot any smugglers. And if you're not keen on pursuing miscreants, you might convert the basement into a living area. At entrance level there's an open-plan kitchen, dining room and living room with a solid-fuel stove and an oriel window looking out over the water. There are two bedrooms, with wood floors and built-ins, for a total floor area of 1,076 sq ft.

Cliff House, The Harbour, Greystones

Cliff House

This pretty period property at Cliff Road, Greystones, Co Wicklow, overlooking the harbour is in an area zoned T1 (for town centre use), so it could really suit someone who wanted to set up a little seaside business from home. It's a four-bedroom terraced house, naturally with sea views, and has original features including fireplaces, high ceilings and shuttered windows. On the ground floor it has a kitchen, a study and two reception rooms - a living room and a drawing room, both with cast-iron fireplaces and harbour views. The four bedrooms are upstairs. It's 1,850 sq ft inside and there's a courtyard garden out the back.

The Quay, Kinvara, Co Galway

€695k  Colm Farrell Auctioneers, (091) 632 688

The Quay

As its address suggests, this large detached house is right on the waterfront in Kinvara. The late PJ Mara had the same address - his house was farther up the quay - and it's arguably the most picturesque neighbourhood in one of the prettiest villages in all of Co Galway. It's 3,230 sq ft in size, with five bedrooms upstairs (two en-suite) and the main bedroom with a walk-in wardrobe as well. Back on the ground floor there's a sitting room with an open fire, a living room with a bay window overlooking the water and Dunguaire Castle, a kitchen and dining room also with views and with an oil-fired Rayburn, and a conservatory.
