Old School House, Co Limerick
€495k Sherry FitzGerald Limerick (061) 418 000
The Old School in Chapel Hill, Castleconnell was built on the site of a church and in recent years it's been a music school run by the composer and harpist Janet Harbison. It's a listed building on a quarter of an acre on the banks of the Shannon, with river views. The ground floor has three of the four bedrooms, a kitchen with a range, an office and study, and a conservatory. As well as the master bedroom, the upstairs has the main living room, with two studies off it. Outside there's a courtyard, garden and a converted stable.
Englewood, Kilmacabea, Co Cork
€195k Sherry FitzGerald O’Neill Skibbereen (028) 21404
This three-bedroom semi-detached property just outside the west Cork village of Leap is a conversion of the former Kilmacabea national school. It's 1,150 sq ft with three bedrooms, all on the first floor, with one en-suite. The main bathroom is upstairs, with a guest toilet downstairs. There's just one main reception room - a living room inside the front porch with a solid-fuel stove. The kitchen is at the back, with a separate utility room. There's a lawned front garden and a side patio, with parking out the back.
Old School House, Co Kildare
€185k Sherry FitzGerald McDermott Athy (059) 863 2797
As if living in a 19th century schoolhouse weren't enough, it is also next to the ruins of the 13th century Killabban church. Its address may be Killabban, Maganey, Co Kildare, but the schoolhouse is inside the border of Co Laois. It's coming down with period features, including a vast stone hearth and original pine floors. It has four bedrooms - three on the first floor and one spare bedroom or living room downstairs. There's also a dining room with doors to the garden, a kitchen with a Rayburn and an office.
Killinardrish House, Co Tipperary
€190k GW2 (01) 665 3911
Killinardrish House in Drangan is not itself a school. It's a listed former convent, but there's an old schoolhouse on the grounds. There's also a memorial outside on the street to Michael Cusack, who died in 1909. "He loved his country and served his kind," reads the inscription. "Go thou and do likewise." The main house is 3,627 sq ft with seven bedrooms, one en-suite, and four reception rooms. The stone-built school house and other outbuildings amount to another 1,804 sq ft. It's on a site of just under 0.8 of an acre.
