Four on the market: in Co Mayo

A selection of four properties currently on the market and available to buy in county Mayo.

Drumhill, Aughagower, Westport

€495k  Sherry FitzGerald Crowley (098) 29009

Aughagower village is missing out on a tourism opportunity, Pisa-style, as its 1,000-year-old round tower is leaning a little to the north. You'll be on a more secure footing in this four-bedroom house on a one-acre site outside the village. The property measures 2,750 sq ft, and the main living room is an open-plan kitchen, dining and family room with a double-height ceiling, a wall of windows and mountain views. There's a 363 sq ft integrated garage which might be converted as there's a detached garage on site too.

Ardmore, Westport

€695k  Sherry FitzGerald Crowley (098) 29009

A traditional cottage stood on the site and was knocked down to make way for a replica. Well, it's almost exact: some of the original stone was used in the construction, and there are traditional fixtures inside, but this cottage has features unheard-of in its predecessor's day. It's 1,292 sq ft, for a start, with three bedrooms, one with an en-suite and dressing room. That's on the first floor, where there's also a study and a sitting room. The ground floor has a second living room and kitchen, and the cottage is on a half-acre.

Tavraun, Kilkelly

€115k  Connaught Property (094) 925 5912

Though it's in a remote rural setting, this detached cottage in the townland of Tavraun is only eight kilometres from Knock airport. The cottage is on 1.03 acres and has a sitting room, kitchen, three bedrooms and a bathroom, with oil-fired central heating and double glazing. This part of Mayo is dotted with lakes. Near the property are the three loughs comprising the Urlaur Lakes Special Area of Conservation - a scenic and important habitat for plants and wild birds. The village of Kilkelly is about seven kilometres away.

Kilmore, Foxford

€239k  Fox and Gallagher (096) 70900

As a more relaxing alternative to climbing Croagh Patrick, you could sit on your balcony with a cocktail and just look at the mountain. You could, at least, in this architect-designed detached house about three kilometres outside Westport. Built in 2006, it's 3,240 sq ft in size and the main living room is on the first floor, with a balcony off. There's also a study on this level, while downstairs has the sitting and dining room, kitchen, and four bedrooms (two en-suite). It's on 1.25 acres with lawns, a patio and decking.
