Four cottages for sale in Dublin which come with charm and individuality.

4 Richmond Place, Rathmines, D6

€650k  Sherry FitzGerald Rathmines, (01) 496 6066

The interior of 4 Richmond Place may not be to everyone's taste, as there's a profusion of wood on the floors, walls and ceilings. The exterior, though, is sure to please. It has a picture-postcard front garden, packed with rose bushes, and the back garden has herb and fruit beds and a lawn. The house was remodelled about 10 years ago under an architect's design, and is mainly open-plan now with an internal courtyard. It's 1,152 sq ft with two bedrooms on the ground floor (one en-suite), as well as a study or third bedroom in the attic. Otherwise the ground floor consists of an open-plan living room, dining room and kitchen with huge glass doors to the garden.

7 Beaumont Road

Number 7 Beaumont Road is part of a terrace of eight bungalows that used to be known as Puckstown Cottages back when they were first built in the late 19th century. They've all been extended since then, to a greater or lesser extent, but there may be scope to do more with Number 7, as it has gardens front and back (though no off-street parking at present). As it stands, it's 753 sq ft with three bedrooms as well as an eat-in kitchen, a living room and a bathroom. The back garden has a patio and a lawn, and the front garden is also lawned, which could make way for a driveway.

12 Dermot O'Hurley Avenue

Dermot O'Hurley Avenue is named after the 16th century Archbishop of Cashel who was tortured and hanged in 1584 for refusing to renounce Catholicism. It runs in a roughly east-west direction between the River Dodder and Irishtown Road, and Number 12 is at the end of a terrace. It's 721 sq ft, all on one floor, and has been well maintained and refurbished. There are two bedrooms, both with oak floors and cast-iron fireplaces, as well as a skylit living room at the front and an eat-in kitchen at the back, with sliding doors to a decked yard facing south. Lansdowne Road and Grand Canal Dock train stations are both about a kilometre away.

89 The Village

The Village opens off Watermill Road in Raheny, and is less than five minutes' walk from the causeway to Bull Island. Number 89 is a south-west-facing mid-terrace house, in very good decorative order, with a small but stylish back garden where there's a sandstone patio surrounded by copiously planted flowerbeds and creeper-clad walls. The house itself is 861 sq ft with two bedrooms on the first floor, along with a bathroom. The ground floor has a relatively big (26ft by 14ft) living and dining room running from the front of the house to the back, with a gas-fitted fireplace and double doors to the garden. Off this is a galley-style fitted kitchen.
