Fjord views at Lough Swilly home
The Hermitage €699k
Lough Swilly in north Donegal is one of three glacial fjords in Ireland - or possibly fjards, if you want to avoid falling out with the Swedes.
At any rate, Lough Swilly is full of shipwrecks, and if you're not a diver seeking lost bullion, you might contemplate the watery demise of all those souls from a safe and warm vantage point in the townland of Ardnaditian, on the eastern shore of the lough.
'The Hermitage' is a substantial detached house on four acres in that townland, and it has uninterrupted views of Lough Swilly from the back.
There's a terrace for enjoying the view when the weather is clement enough, and you can reach it from various reception rooms on the ground floor at the back of the house.
The first of the reception rooms is a living room, giving onto a conservatory, with a marble and slate fireplace. Secondly there's a library, which has solid oak bookcases. The dual-aspect kitchen and dining room also has French doors, along with an Aga and Belfast sink, and there's a separate pantry and utility. Finally there's a triple-aspect games room.
The first floor, in its various parts, has an office and four bedrooms, of which two have en-suites including the dual-aspect master bedroom. The internal dimensions in total amount to 4,844 sq ft.
Two of the four acres are garden, with lawns, mature trees and flowerbeds, and the other two acres are by way of a paddock at the front of the house, separating it from the road. There's also a carport and a workshop on the grounds.
'The Hermitage' is about 3.5 kilometres north of the village of Manorcunningham, about a 15-minute drive from Letterkenny and 35 minutes from Derry airport
The agent is Franklins in Letterkenny (074) 918 8000 and the asking price is €699,000.
