Enjoy some cocktails with a kick in Kilquade
Mimosa can refer to a genus of shrub that includes one species used in the psychedelic cocktail ayahuasca. This is famously popular among South American shaman types for inducing a state of deep spiritual insight.
Rather more practically, 'Mimosa' is also the name of a less potent but arguably more pleasant cocktail of champagne and orange juice, which is more like the sort of thing a person could enjoy on the patio of this rambling house in Co Wicklow.
Mimosa, at Huntsbury, Kilquade, is a large, detached five-bedroom house at the end of an enclave of what estate agents describe as "prestige homes".
The property is approached through electric gates and sits on an acre of gardens, with space for several cars to park at the front.
Its internal dimensions of 3,355 square feet include a choice of reception rooms. There's a lounge (13 feet by almost 22 feet), a family room approximately 20 feet by 20, and a long sunroom measuring 23 feet by 10'6". There's also a large kitchen/breakfast room 31' 9" by 11 feet, a study, a laundry room, a guest toilet, and an en-suite bedroom on the ground floor.
Upstairs are four more double bedrooms, two of them with en-suite bathrooms, and the main bathroom.
Mimosa is close to Druid's Glen Golf Club and Resort, and it's about six kilometres, or a 10-minute drive, away from Greystones Dart Station. The N11 is about five minutes' drive.
It's also right beside the National Garden Exhibition Centre, so the new owners will have ready access to a source of ideas about what to do with that acre of gardens, and maybe even conduct a bit of research into exotic South American shrubs if they care to.
Kilquade is best known oddly enough for a 100 year old plus scheme of houses built in a Russian style.
The Russian village was the original inland holiday retreat for those who appreciated mountain scenery more than the seaside. That same scenery abounds in Ireland's "garden county." Sherry FitzGerald Greystones is the agent and the asking price is €925,000. The property is on view tomorrow (Saturday 17) from noon to 1pm.
