Ranch and period residences on 171 acres, 57 stables and staff accommodation
Loughtown Stud, situated on 171 acres close to Donadea in Co Kildare, ticks all the boxes that a stud farm should -- it's got good land, top-class stabling, great accommodation and a strategic location.
Furhermore the stud also has an enviable reputation for winners of classic races, having produced the famous Derby and St Leger winner Ragusa and been home to stallions such as Arkle's sire Archive, Red God, Larkspur, Raise You Ten, Henbit and Ballad Rock.
Loughtown Stud takes permanent and temporary boarders, both mares and youngstock, as well as consigning foals, yearlings and mares for all the major European sales. To this end, much of the property's 171 acres is laid out in nursery paddocks, as well as stallion paddocks.
The main yard contains 15 loose boxes, two foaling boxes and a veterinary area with a laboratory. Beside this, another stable contains a further 26 loose boxes.
The farmyard contains a machinery shed, haybarn, farm office, four looseboxes and a loading ramp. The stallion yard contains four stallion boxes and a covering shed.
The outer yard includes exercise facilities such as a six-horse walker, lunging ring and sand arena, as well as a three-bay machinery shed, storage shed, washdown area and three isolation looseboxes. Within the yard complex are two flats -- a one-bedroom and a two-bedroom unit.
Located across the road from the main property is another outer yard, with a three-bay double hay shed, large concrete yard and an American barn with 12 stables.
Visitors to the stud could be forgiven for assuming the cut-stone manager's house is the stud's principal residence but in fact the main house is a beautiful ranch-style property.
The ranch house is a single storey property that was designed with parties in mind. The 32ft x 20ft main reception room opens out onto a patio, while the kitchen has large picture windows overlooking the post and railed paddocks.
The ranch house also includes an office, laundry room, guest-bedroom suite and a second bedroom.
The manger's house is a two-storey four-bedroom property that includes a kitchen, breakfast room, family room, living room and shower room.
Finally, the three-bedroom gate lodge at the edge of the stud completes the accommodation.
Loughtown is located within 15 miles of both Goffs and Tattersalls sales venues, while the Curragh, Punchestown and Fairyhouse racecourses are within a 30-minute drive. The stud has a guide price of €3m.
