Those seeking some home grown avocados to smear on their toasted sourdough will be thrilled to hear of a new invention that allows one to grow the brunch favourite in the comfort of their own home.
Canadian avocado lover Daniel Kalliontzis recently launched the AvoSeedo, a tool which encourages easy germination of avocado seeds for even beginner gardeners.
Avocados, which originate in Mexico, are quite difficult to grow in Ireland but the gardening entrepreneur’s invention encourages the seed to germinate and prosper in a bowl of water and needs little attention from its planter.
“With AvoSeedo, you can significantly raise the success rate when it comes to avocado germination.
“AvoSeedo is a small plastic bowl that features an indentation with a hole in it. A single avocado seed can be inserted with the “flat” end facing down,” the website said.
“Afterwards, AvoSeedo can be placed in a sufficiently large, water-filled pot. Due to its low weight and high displacement, AvoSeedo will remain at the surface all the time; as the water level lowers, AvoSeedo will sink accordingly.”
The obvious demand for such a product was clear, as Kalliontzis raised more than €49,000 on Kickstarter to launch his business idea.
The product is not available until June 21 but can be pre-ordered from this week.
