Take action against migraines
Published 08/09/2015 | 02:30
Migraine Action Week 2015 is being launched on Friday and several information events are being organised around the country. In the meantime, some helpful hints on managing the condition include:
* Don't skip meals
* Eat regularly
* Be aware of GI foods with a high GI (glycaemic index), such as sugary treats and white bread, which cause sugar peaks and troughs. Stick to low-GI foods, such as wholegrains, pulses and low-fat dairy.
* Drink plenty of water. Dehydration is a known precursor to migraine so make sure you drink at least 1.5 to two litres of water during the day.
* Eat carbohydrates in the evening as tiredness can trigger migraine.
