Relaxation room to destress pupils
The school year is turning the corner into its most stressful phase. But one school, St Dominic's Secondary in Ballyfermot in Dublin, has come up with a novel idea to soothe the nerves of not just its pupils, but its staff: on Wednesday, it will open its multisensory room.
Devised by the health-promoting schools team, it aims to offer the opportunity of complete relaxation and access to sensory stimulation. The room is for people of all ages and abilities.
A multisensory room provides stimulation of the human senses, promotes intellectual activity and provides a space of escapism, control and choice for users.
Rugby pundit and mental health advocate Brent Hope will formally open the room, which promises to improve the mental health and well-being of those who use it.
