Mindful moment… Meditation can - literally - be a chore

For those of us who find it hard to sit still and meditate for 10 minutes a day, here's a handy tip. Instead of sitting with your legs crossed and eyes closed, try building in mindful moments during everyday chores.
So, when you are brushing your hair, take deep breaths as you brush and really feel the movement of the brush through your hair and the weight of the brush in your hand.
Or maybe when you are washing up, instead of getting angry that it's you doing it yet again, focus and feel your feet on the ground by the sink, pay attention to the warm sudsy water on the pots and pans and look closely as each bit of food gets washed away. You could do the same when you brush your teeth, each time you walk up the stairs or even take the rubbish out.
For now, just pick one thing you usually do unconsciously and pay attention to the physical sensations that arise each time you do it.
As time goes on, you apply the same approach to different chores. This way, you are creating pockets of peace throughout your day.
