It's a question of whatever works for you and there are plenty of options to choose from.

The latest method to help in the battle is the iCoach app which comes from the EU Commission and is available free on Google Play and the App Store.

Statistics show:

* 41pc of registered Irish iCoach users stopped smoking after three months

* 80pc of Irish smokers WANT to quit

* The highest percentage of smokers in Ireland are between 25 and 34 years old (28.7pc)

* The average Irish smoker smokes 12 cigarettes a day. That means the average Irish smoker spends a total of €2,299.50 per year on cigarettes

The new iCoach app update shows you exactly how much money you will have saved since the day you quit

"The new iCoach update now comes with a 'panic button' to help smokers at their weakest moments.

"Just hit it and get instant advice on how to conquer that craving," said a spokeswoman.

She said the iCoach app acts as a free online health coach that will support you on your journey to a smoke-free life.

It gives daily tips, allows you to see what the iCoach community is up to, and share your progress to support others.
