Ireland moves up OAP index

Ireland is now the 15th best place in the world for older people to live in, according to the annual Global AgeWatch Index.
Ireland climbed two places since last year but it's more to do with other top countries dropping down the ranks rather than improved performance here.
Overall, it identifies Switzerland as the best place for older people to live, but highlights that inequality among older people is increasing as conditions worsen in many countries outside western Europe and north America.
Rising costs, coupled with reductions in secondary income supports and the introduction of a number of stealth charges for property tax and water, have meant many older people in Ireland find it increasingly difficult to get by.
