YouTuber James Mitchell has made a number of videos related to his experience of coming out, but for National Coming Out Day he shared a video giving advice to anyone thinking of coming out.

He shared the feeling of relief once the 'coming out' is complete.

Watch: Irish lad calls his granny to ask her to vote yes in referendum

"It feels weightless... it feels like everything is going to be easy. It feels like it will last forever".

James revealed that the the heartbreaking reason behind his decision to make a video for National Coming Out Day was the death of a friend.

"I lost a friend this year to suicide".

"His parents knew he was gay... but when it came to voting for his rights, they just couldn't do it... he took his life".

"Never forget where you were when you think about where it is you want to be".

"It's so hard to find the speck of light when you're surrounded by darkness... but if you can look back to how hard it was when you weren't able to be yourself, it gets brighter".

James Mitchell: 'Take a step back. Take a step away. Think of how sad it must be to have to make someone else feel small so you can feel a little bigger'

James includes caution for people preparing to come out.

"It's important to remember things that bounce back, or fall apart... were going to do that anyway".

"The first time I told a person I was gay, they told me that if someone doesn't love me for who I am, they don't deserve to be in my life".

"It absolutely gets better. Happy National Coming Out day".
