# How long would you have to walk to burn off those after-work drinks?

As we approach the weekend, it can be hard to resist the temptation to sneak to the pub after work for a few sneaky drinks with colleagues, but UK research released this week revealed that alcohol is a huge factor in the obesity crisis.

Often calories present in alcohol are pushed to the back of our minds and after one or three it is easier to forget just how many beverages have been consumed. Drinking just five pints a week can contribute 44,200 extra calories to your diet each year according to research by Britain’s NHS.

A few drinks is always welcome but here’s what just three bevvies might be costing you in calories and just how much time you would have to briskly walk to burn them off.

The Stats

3 small glasses of wine (125ml each) contain 267 calories and will take 57 minutes of brisk walking to burn off

3 glasses of standard wine (175ml) contain 372 calories and will take 1 hour and 18 minutes of brisk walking to burn off

3 large glasses of wine (250ml) contain 534 calories and will take 1 hour and 51 minutes of brisk walking to burn off

3 pints of beer/lager/cider contain 750 calories and will take 2hours and 39 minutes of brisk walking to burn off

3 spirits (25ml each) and sparkling water contain 169 calories and takes 36 minutes of brisk walking to burn off

3 spirits and mixer (25ml each with 100ml mixer) contain 267 calories and takes 1 hour and 15 minutes of brisk walking to burn off

3 spirits (25ml each) and diet mixer (100mlo each) contain 169.5 calories and takes 36 minutes of brisk walking to burn off.

3 Spirits (25ml each) and fruit juice (100ml each) contain 327 calories and will take 1 hour and 9 minutes of brisk walking to burn off

3 Spirits (25ml each) and energy drink (100mls each) contain 366 calories and will take 1 hour and 18 minutes of brisk walking to burn off.
