Auckland woman shifts half her body weight in 11 months but online trolls label her a fake
A New Zealand woman who dropped half her body weight in less than a year has been subject to an abundance of online abuse by trolls who accused her of doctoring her ‘after’ photographs.
Auckland Fitness and health blogger Simone Pretscherer shed more than 13 stone after undergoing gastric sleeve surgery in 2014 and transforming her diet and exercise regime but attracted abusers on her Facebook page who accused her of being ‘fake’.
“They said, ‘There’s no way that’s the same person. She doesn’t have any stretch marks or loose skin’. And obviously I do, I just didn’t think to show all of my loose skin in every post I put online,” Simone told Australian news website News.au.com.
“I’d actually shown my loose skin in a previous post a couple of months ago. And I’ve told everyone I’m going to be as honest and brutal about the side effects as possible. I’ve posted that photo before, so it’s not like I was only trying to show the glamorous side. I didn’t even think about it.”
The blogger, who has amassed more than 50,000 followers on her Facebook page, revealed that she took the comments to heart despite her tremendous transformation.
“I don’t know why, but every single comment that called me out for being fake and a liar really bothered me far more than it should. I think it’s because it took hours of crying and debating whether to share my story online and for others to see, posting the first picture online along with my weight for the world to see what the hardest thing I have ever done,” she wrote on Facebook, sharing a photograph of her body.
“Throughout my whole journey I have tried to be so honest about the whole experience and tell people it exactly as it’s happened so to be called a fake hurt a lot. And then when it came to posting about my loose skin well that was equally as tough. So here we go. I hope this helps all the ‘non believers’.”
The honest post Simone to launch a fundraising page to raise money for surgery to rid the 24-year-old of her excess skin.
“My followers told me they wanted to donate and asked me to set up a fundraising page. I was really hesitant at first, but I did.”
So far she’s received almost $2000 in donations.
“I’m so grateful for everything. I’m so proud because I never would have even thought of achieving this just 11 months ago,” she said.
