Get Beach Fit in a week: Six minutes to strong and toned arms

Many of us dream toned and defined arms, and zapping bingo wings is especially desirable when the warm weather sees us wearing sleeveless tops in the sun.

Work out along with fitness experts Mick Barrett and Laura Connick, as they focus on achieving toned and strong arms in 6 minutes.

Trainers Mick Barrett and Laura Connick, from Dromcondra-based Active You gym, are experts when it comes to achieving ultimate fitness and have devised a series of 6 minute workouts designed to challenge those of all levels of fitness from beginner to advanced.

Today, the Active You trainers demonstrate a series of exercises which focus on working the arm muscles in a series of curls and raises.

“The second part of our Active 6 workout will tackle your biceps and triceps through lateral and forward raises, bicep curls and tricep overhead extensions,” said Laura Connick, trainer at Active You.

“If you don’t have weights, make use of tins of peas or beans and if you’re struggling with both arms, alternate the weights between them.

“If you are ever struggling with the pace, slow it down but don’t stop. Push yourself to the maximum of your capabilities,” she said.

Despite Active You’s commitment to fitness and exercise, they also stress the importance of a healthy balanced diet when striving to achieve the much desired beach ready body.

Many of us skip breakfast without a second thought, which Laura stresses is one of the worst mistakes you can make when trying to achieve better fitness and health.

“Breakfast should always be consumed within 1 hour of waking up.

"Try kick starting your metabolism by starting the day off with some protein and fats,” she said.

“Eggs, avocado, nuts and lean turkey rashers all make for an extremely healthy breakfast and it will set you up for the day.

“The eggs can be boiled poached/scrambled or even done in an omelette. Be adventurous but make sure you do make the time to eat the most important meal of the day,” she finished.

The gym hosts a unique series of classes called Active 6 which features all of the workouts in this week’s series.
