"I was approaching middle age and I wanted to improve my fitness"

This June bank holiday weekend will see corporate account manager Ann take part in her third Vhi Women's Mini Marathon.

"The first time I did it was about 10 years ago. I was involved with an organisation called the Business and Professional Women's Club in Sligo and we did it to raise money for a couple of different charities," Ann explains.

"I was totally out of my comfort zone because I am not a runner. I play tennis and I ski and I am an outdoorsy person, but I am definitely not a runner. To run the Mini Marathon was, and still is, a big challenge for me."

Last year, Ann faced down this challenge once again.

"In January 2015 I decided to do something to improve my fitness because I was approaching middle age and I wanted to do something for me," she says. "To have something like the Mini Marathon to work towards is great because you need that motivation - it's very easy to stay in bed, especially when it's raining!"
