Belfast writer Oliver Jeffers has scooped the Specsavers Children’s Book of the Year Junior Award for his book ‘This Moose Belongs to Me’.

The award was presented to Jeffers at the Bord Gais Energy Irish Book Awards 2012, held recently at the RDS, Dublin, where over 50 Irish authors gathered with 350 guests to celebrate the best of Irish literature published in the last year.

Among those in attendance were Senator David Norris, hurling star Lar Corbett, comedian Maeve Higgins, novelists Joseph O’ Connor, Keith Ridgeway, Cecelia Ahern and David Park, and children’s author Derek Landy.

‘This Moose Belongs to Me’, published by Harper Collins Children’s Books, tells the story of a boy who chases an obstinate moose called Marcel. It is beautifully-illustrated, witty and thought-provoking story, exploring the concept of ownership.
