Elle Macpherson's €0.70 secret to losing weight and fighting colds

Elle Macpherson knows a thing or two about health and fitness.

Considering that she's known as The Body and is one of the most well-known supermodels in the world, it's no surprise that Elle has a trick or two up her sleeve when it comes to looking and feeling good.

In her column on Get The Gloss, the Sports Illustrated covergirl revealed her secret to losing weight and fighting colds during the colder months.

And, unlike many secrets of the stars, it's cheap and easy to make.

"In winter, I always include hot water with lemon, ginger, cayenne pepper and mint in my morning routine," she wrote.

"It’s an immune booster and helps kick start the metabolism, which can be a little more sluggish at this time of year."

Elle (52) snacks on dates and herbal tea to keep her energy levels up throughout the day, and allows herself to have "a few squares of dark chocolate every now and then."

"I am all for enjoying life," she said.

Elle swears by her alkaline diet, whereby the products she consumes keep the acidity levels in her body low.

"Rather than comprising simple carbs such as pasta and wheat, alkaline foods contain complex carbohydrates derived from whole grains containing abundant nutrients to provide lasting energy and help curb sugar and carb cravings," she explained.

"I have found that when the body is nourished properly and functioning as nature intended, rather than being powered by processed foods, it can have far reaching benefits."
