Global village: Scuba diving just got more laid back

A bout of scuba diving seems almost mandatory when you're holidaying in a far-flung location, and especially when the sea life is of the exotic kind. But what if you're feeling particularly relaxed on your holliers, and don't fancy doing any hard work in the water?
A Sea-Doo Sea Scooter could be the answer. This underwater propulsion system will allow you zip around tropical fish and coral reefs from the comfort of a motorised mini-submarine with a built-in oxygen tank.
Children as young as eight can use a Sea-Doo Sea Scooter - the model recommended for young users is the Aquanaut SD5543. But for most you'll have to be aged over 14.
Prices begin in the region of €450. www.seadooseascooter.com
Kate relaxes on sunny Skiathos
American actress Kate Hudson recently took a well-deserved break from Hollywood and holidayed on the small Greek island of Skiathos. Kate (36) was joined by her screen-icon mum Goldie Hawn (69) and the mum-and-daughter lookalikes, relaxed by going swimming and lazing about on sandy beaches.
Skiathos is a small Greek island in the northwest Aegean Sea, and is the westernmost island in the Northern Sporades group. It's highly rated for its lush pine forests and crystal-clear azure waters, and for having more than 60 beautiful and clean beaches.
It's also known for its fun nightlife, and a pedestrianised street by the Old Harbour is home to bars and clubs which rock all night.
For nature lovers there are 25 long, well sign-posted walking routes and trails which pass through some of the most beautiful and unspoilt parts of the island. www.visitgreece.gr/en/greek_islands/sporades/skiathos

3. Paris, for romance and chocolate.
4. Singapore, a melting pot of culture including Indian, Chinese and Malay.
5. Dubai, the shopping capital of the Middle East.
6. New York, which recently switched places with London in the popularity stakes.
7. Istanbul, expected to rival Singapore and Paris in terms of international visitor arrivals this year.
8. Kuala Lumpur, capital city of Malaysia.
9. Hong Kong, even if it's the third most expensive city in the world.
10. Seoul, with visitor numbers increasing by 6.3 per cent last year.
Laugh out loud on your journey
Sometimes you need a bit of a chuckle while on the road. Like being told that the best time to visit Paris, above, is between 18 and 34. Referring to the best age to kick your heels up in the City of Light isn't the only humorous travel quote on short-jokes-quotes.com.
"Today I got so lost the GPS lady told me to stop and ask for directions!" might also raise a smile.
Or how about the line; "A friend of mine is a pilot, and we were going somewhere in his car, and for no reason at all he waited 45 minutes before pulling out of his driveway."
Or you could try, "Living on Earth is expensive, but it does include a free trip round the sun."
