Wine: I love a velvety red - just not near my wedding dress!

Champagne features in Siobhan O'Connor's favourite wine moment:

"I've lots of lovely memories associated with enjoying wine," says the 98FM Morning Crew presenter, "and sipping a nice bottle of pink Champagne on my wedding afternoon with my husband in the Rock Glen Hotel, Clifden, was definitely very romantic."

However, the showbiz reporter says her worst wine moment occurred the same night.

"A friend spilt her glass of red on my beautiful wedding dress."

Watching TV at home at the weekends, Siobhan will often sip a glass of red and have some French bread and Brie on the side.

She prefers red, her top choice being Rioja and other wines made from Tempranillo, although "Malbec is another favourite; it almost feels like purple velvet slipping down".

Her husband Paul loves French wine, in particular Châteauneuf-du-Pape, and when she sees a well-priced bottle she moves fast.

"Normally I buy Rioja in bulk, so recently, when I found some in Lidl at a good price, Paul was in for a treat and I arrived back with a couple of bottles."

Siobhan's biggest wine spend was €60 on a bottle of Champagne a few weeks ago, when she took on a new job, heading up all the entertainment on 98FM.

"I was so delighted I headed straight to Kelly's Wine Vault in Clontarf and bought a bottle."

Champagne is also her ideal tipple on a swanky night out, "but at €15 to €20 a glass in most places, I often opt for a good sparkling wine".
