Throw your baker's hat in the ring
This is Ireland so you're only ever a mere scone's throw from a cup of tea and our nation's signature baked treat. But, despite the scone's enduring popularity, it is a cake that divides as much as it delights.
For starters is it pronounced 'sc-own' or 'scon' as in grab some before they're gone? To have sultanas or plain? And then there's the question of topping. Butter and jam and cream of course – that's one all fans agree on!
Perhaps the only really pertinent question is who makes the best scone in the country? To find the answer, the good people at Goodall's have launched their annual search for the home of Ireland's Best Scone this week. To nominate your favourite sconerie just tweet the name of the café, deli, hotel or restaurant to @goodallsIreland using the hashtag #bestscone before Friday, May 9, Entries can also be submitted to the Goodall's Facebook page. From the public's nominations 10 finalists will be chosen and judged by a panel of enthusiasts . So get nominating.
