The Troika Russian Restaurant, Tallinn: I fell for Troika and its Russian fare because it was the first and only time I ate bear stew.
Raikojaplats 15, Tallinn, Estonia. Tel: 00372 627 6245
Kosmos, Helsinki: I loved Kosmos for the room, its cosy intimacy and good service, and because I really enjoyed their reindeer fillet with spruce shoots.
Kalevankatu 3, Helsinki, Finland. Tel: 00358 964 7255
Auerbachs Keller, Leipzig: This is the restaurant where Goethe wrote Faust, and it's where he set the meeting of Dr Faustus and Mephistopheles. It's famous for its pies -- Leipziger Lärche.
Grimmaische Strasse 2-4 (Mädler-Passage) Leipzig, Germany. Tel: 0049 341 216 100
Café Wunderbar, Taormina: Not truly a restaurant, but this café/bar in the centre of Taormina faces the Bay of Naxos with Etna in the background -- an enchanting view.
Piazza IX Aprile, 7, 98039. Tel: 0039 094 262 5032
La Colombe D'Or, St Paul de Vence, Cote d'Azur: The paintings on the walls are by such artists as Monet, Picasso and Matisse and the sculptures are by Calder. The food's good, but the art is stunning.
St Paul de Vence, Cote d'Azur, France. Tel: 0033 493 328 002
Terre de Truffes, Nice: Possibly my favourite treat is truffles, and Terre des Truffes specialises in them. My favourite dish here is the brouillade, which is truffled scrambled eggs.
11 Rue Saint-François-de-Paule, Nice, France. Tel: 0033 493 620 768
Bistrot d'Antoine, Nice: I really love this little bistro in Nice's old town. The food is great and the prices are low. Busy, buzzy and noisy, it's a gourmet's delight.
27 Rue de la Préfecture, Nice, France. Tel: 0033 493 852 957
Ristorante Mantova, Lago di Posta, Frosinone: I've enjoyed this restaurant since I was a child, when I often dined there with my parents. Apart from the very good food, the location is breathtakingly stunning. It's on the banks of a lake in the middle of a nature reserve, so you can watch otters at play while you dine. Try the sticklebacks, straight out of the lake.
Ristorante Mantova, Ponte Tapino, Broccostella, Frosinone, Italy. Tel: 0039 077 689 0078
Nobu, London: There are other Nobus in America, but the London one is the easiest to reach. It's named after chef Nobu Matsushita, who started the chain. The range and variety of flavours of the food is astounding.
19 Old Park Lane, London WIY 4LB.
