Lunchbox: Paris Bakery
18 Moore Street,
D1. TEL: 01 8044112

Sophie Gorman

The Cost: €6.40 for takeaway sandwich (€3.90) and quiche (€2.50).

The Look: An unexpected discovery in the middle of bustling Moore Street stalls is this utterly authentic Parisian bakery. Although this is French-owned and run, there are just a few Gallic touches, some simple banquettes and tables.

The Goods: Very tempting array of freshly baked breads, not to mention the savoury tarts and the most irresistible gateaux. But talk about impeccable pedigree -- the owner is a master baker from Montpellier and the chef on the day of my visit is head chef at Chez Max.

The Bad: They could do with more variety in sandwich fillings, but few real quibbles.

The Result: The quiche is light with a lovely pastry and the celeriac coleslaw in my ham sandwich is a flavoursome twist. My herby focaccia is lovely enough to merit a return visit the next day to buy a loaf.

The Grade: A-.
