Foodies turn out in force for oyster festival
The majesty of the mollusc wasn't in any doubt last Wednesday night when a lively group of enthusiastic seafood lovers and food critics turned out in force for the launch of the second Cliff Townhouse Oyster Festival.
Oysters au naturel from Michael Kelly's bed in Galway, espresso cups filled with yummy Lobster Bisque, spinach – doused Oysters Rockefeller, all washed down with Moët & Chandon.
The food put everyone in the mood for a quiz on oysters and the well dressed, well fed bunch showed an impressive knowledge about the bi-valve. The Diary was going great until we fell at the last hurdle with a question about French oysters. We're more expert with the US variety!
Sadly that put us out of the running to win dinner at The Cliff Townhouse or a stay at the property's sister hotel, The Cliff House Hotel in Ardmore.
Siobhan Byrne, hotel manager at Cliff Townhouse Dublin, mingled with guests and colleagues like Adriaan Bartels, General Manager of Cliff Collection, and head chef Sean Smith. Among the stylish guests trying their best at the questions were Alan Amsby (Mr Pussy) who definitely had the best-tressed hair in the room. The festival runs throughout the month of September.
