Gillian wasn't in a fowl humour when she got sticky fingers at La Bucca, the well-known Mediterranean restaurant in Meath which won the award on the Ray D'arcy show last month.

A shortlist of 10 tasty chicken joints was whittled down to just three, with La Bucca's tasty wings winning out in the end.

The close contest was judged by celebrity judges Nick Munier, maître d’ and restaurant manager of Hell’s Kitchen and of Masterchef Ireland fame, and Irish comedian Gearóid Farrelly,  who joining D’Arcy in deciding who deserved the delicious accolade.

Word round the restaurant is is that Chef Petar Petrov brought enough wings, supplied locally by Manor Farm in Meath, along with dips, celery and other wing accompaniments to the contest to feed a small army.

Owner of La Bucca, Russell Bailey, said that he was delighted with the award and the feather in his cap.

“This award is particularly pleasing given the amount of focus we place on purchasing only the best available grade A Irish chicken wings," he said.

"Our wings come from Meath, Cavan and Monaghan chicken farmers for two reasons: firstly, we like to support our local farmers and secondly, they’re the best wings on the market as proven by our award."

The wife of Niall Quinn and ambassador for Nurture charity Gillian said that aside from the fabulous food, La Bucca had a lot more to offer.

“It’s not just the fabulous food – La Bucca is a very sociable spot with loads of events such as children’s pizza and disco parties, wine and craft beer tasting nights and live music," she said.

And it seems she's not the only celeb to fly to La Bucca when she's feeling a bit peckish, with famous faces Ronan Keating, Keith Duffy, Johnny Logan, Samatha Mumba and many more all regulars at the restaurant.

There are three La Bucca restaurants in Meath and they seem to be on a winning streak having earned either the Best Restaurant or Best Casual Dining in Meath honour for four straight years at the Restaurant Association of Ireland Awards.
