Fad alert: Chocolate fried chicken is lapped up in LA
Poultry fried with bittersweet cocoa is Los Angeles foodies' new go-to treat.
If digging your greasy fingers into a tub of crispy fried chicken wasn’t bold enough, a new Los Angeles eatery boasting an array of chocolate covered poultry offers little in the way of healthy arteries.
ChocoChicken, which opened its doors in Tinseltown this week, isn’t set to become a favourite amongst dieting celebrities after devising a menu that pairs the poultry favourite with chocolate at every turn.
The signature recipe involves brining the boneless breasts, thighs, legs and wings for 36 hours in a top secret recipe (which includes chocolate) before dipping it into a spice blend that contains bittersweet chocolate powder.
The unique chicken recipe features in all of the dishes available at the spanking new restaurant, including a monkey bread sandwich, slatered in homemade gravy and a chicken burger in broiche buns topped with slaw.
Mash potatoes incorporated with white chocolate, cocoa-dusted fries and a chocolate ketchup are also sides that sit happily on the menu.
“Sure, it sounds super-goofy, but it doesn’t taste goofy. It tastes amazing,” said Adam Fleischman co-founders of ChocoChicken.
With eight more ventures planned by 2016, the chocolate chicken revolution might just hit Dublin soon.
