The eatery, which can be found in Dublin’s Merrion Hotel, is the only restaurant in Ireland to hold two coveted Michelin stars. Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud was also awarded an accolade for the capital’s best restaurant.

Mickael Viljanen formerly of Waterford’s Cliff House Hotel was named best chef and was honoured for his work in Dublin restaurant The Greenhouse.

In Limerick, The Oakroom Restaurant in Adare Manor Hotel was crowned Ireland’s best hotel restaurant, while Rua in Co. Mayo was commended for being the best casual dining experience in the country.

Northern Ireland had a prominent presence in the awards, celebrated by the Restaurants Association of Ireland and The Irish Times. Belfast restaurants OX and Deanes EIPIC were crowned best wine experience and best newcomer respectively, while The Poacher’s Pocket in Co. Down was named the best gastropub on the island.

The annual awards ceremony received more than 30,000 nominations in its various categories, according to Restaurant Association of Ireland President Anthony Gray.

“This year’s awards have been the biggest, brightest and the best. They are the awards everyone wants to be associated with, and everyone wants to be a winner,” he told The Irish Times

“The Irish restaurant scene is vital to the economy, employing 72,000 people and generating revenue in excess of €2 billion per year. It’s great to celebrate the work that all of our restaurateurs around the country do to keep this aspect of our culture alive and kicking.”
