Festive Rachel turns world upside down

Chefs seem to love everything upside down if you'll pardon the expression. Upside-down puddings and tarts (tatin to the purists among you) and now upside-down continents. Rachel Allen has headed off to Australia with her husband for a culinary beano. They arrived last Tuesday and are staying until St Patrick's Day -- which must mean a lot of things are upside down at Ballymaloe.

"We're staying at the Langham," ravishing Rach told me. "Nigella's arriving later too. We're all here for the Melbourne Food & Wine Festival. It's such a great event."

Talking about great culinary events. Next Friday, in the far hipper Aghadoe Heights in Killarney, Lorraine Keane is hosting a fundraising dinner and fashion show for Irish Autism Action with Keith Duffy. Keith's band Boyzone are playing the INEC the night before, so he just has to go out of his hotel room and down the stairs. In any event, many of the country's more esteemed society matrons and fashionistas will be heading to Marie Chawke's magnificent hotel in Killarney on Friday.

One of the expected celebs, Sybil Mulcahy, who is heading to California in May for work, tells me she is just back from Berlin.
