In a previous life, Gypsy Rose was The Viper Room, a strange pub/club hybrid which, we will wager, had nothing to do with Johnny Depp's LA glam-pad of the same name (is there any where less 'Hollywood' on the planet than the Dublin quays?).
Now it has been reborn as an old-school biker bar, where the walls are an unambiguous shade of Hells Angel red, the rockin' tunes come from the time before irony and punters tend towards the bearded, tattooed and black T-shirt-attired -- on a busy night it's like being up the front of a Thin Lizzy concert.
In other words, it's not going to be your top destination if you fancy a pretentious coffee and some quality time with your Kindle.
But for those puzzled by Dublin's historical lack of scuzzy rock bars (there's never truly been anything to rival Cork's Fred Zeppelins), Gypsy Rose will certainly gun your motors.
Downstairs hosts nightly gigs (Sundays is rockabilly day), while upstairs is reserved for chatting and chugging.
If you're the sort who treats themselves to a new tat every Christmas, you really ought to check it out.
