A new mum who welcomed a baby after a Caesarean section discovered that surgeons had left a mobile phone inside of her when it began to vibrate hours afterwards.
Hanan Mahmoud Adbul Karim (36) began to experience crippling cramps after having her baby in a Jordan hospital last month.
The woman’s mother encouraged her to seek medical attention when she noticed her stomach vibrating and accompanied her to the hospital.
“My daughter suffered serious pains and could not move. I brought her back to the hospital where she was treated but nothing was done for her,” the woman’s mother said.
The mother and daughter then went to an A&E department in Amman, Jordan where an X Ray revealed that a foreign object was in her abdomen.
Hanan underwent emergency surgery to remove the operating mobile phone.
The hospital which carried the original Caesarean section has denied the claims that they left the foreign object inside Hanan but has launched an investigation.
Jordanian MP Salim Al Bataynah called for the government to step down following the ordeal.
“In countries which show respect to their nations and following such scandals, governments usually resign. The parliament should show some responsibility,” he said.
