Sperm bank to promise well-dressed donors in new online catalogue
Women choosing a sperm donor will be able to pick a man with the right personality, hobbies and even fashion sense in a new online brochure.
The London Sperm Bank is putting together an internet database for clients which will include detailed notes on donor's characters as well as their appearance.
Men donating to the bank have been asked to explain in writing why they wanted to do so, while sperm bank staff have submitted their own impressions of what the donors are like.
In the brochure, one is described by a member of staff as "softly spoken, introspective, deep thinking" with a "neat, relaxed style", the Daily Mail reported.
Another is described as having a "'rock star image' in terms of appearance but not at all in lifestyle or confidence".
A spokesman for the sperm bank said the benefit of the new system was that women could choose a donor from the comfort of their home rather than travelling to the clinic.
Sperm banks are not legally required to provide personal details about donors but many offer basic physical descriptions and some additional information such as the man's occupation or pastimes.
However, they are also obliged not to publish any information which will lead to the man being identified.
