New mum shares hilariously honest photo of post-pregnancy life
Most images of new mothers focus on the overwhelming joy of childbirth – but one mum has taken a stand and offered an insight into “the realities of postpartum life” with a brutally honest, unfiltered photo.
Fed up with glossy snaps of new motherhood, Amanda Bacon posted a picture on Facebook that a lot of new mothers wouldn’t dare to share – one showing her mesh adult diaper.
“I'm sharing this picture because it's real. This is motherhood; it's raw, stunning, messy, and freaking hilarious all rolled into one,” she wrote in the caption.
“Having a baby is a beautiful experience, and the realities of postpartum life aren't spoken enough about. And definitely not photographed enough.”
The picture has since gone viral, picking up 352,000 likes and 97,000 shares, with thousands of comments praising her for her honesty.
“Some people probably find this uncomfortable, but why? I seriously don't get it! It's probably because this part isn't talked about.
“We all should try and educate, empower and embrace every aspect of childbirth, including moments like this. And do it while having a sense of humour.”
Amanda ends her posts by adding: “Nothing says welcome to motherhood like an adorable squishy baby, and a giant mom diaper.”
The photo shows Amanda facing away from the camera wearing a diaper, while her husband beams and holds their baby.
She later updated the post to clarify that she posted the photo herself, even though she wasn’t the one who took it.
“My husband didn’t post this. He doesn’t even have Facebook. I did,” she wrote.
