RTE's Maura Derrane had to have an emergency C-section six weeks before her due date after losing several litres of blood due to a massive hemorrhage.
The Today show host (43) has revealed the ordeal she went through giving birth to her first baby with her Fine Gael TD husband John Deasy.
She was so ill afterwards that she couldn't even see little Cal until nearly 48 hours after his birth.
Maura was diagnosed with the high-risk condition placenta previa and was admitted to Holles Street for observation. However, her worst nightmare happened after she suddenly started bleeding as her whole body went into shock on May 12.
Unable to stop the bleeding, doctors had just minutes to do an emergency C-section and deliver baby Cal safely.
Maura said her "whole body was convulsing and shaking".
Her husband arrived in thinking the worse, then heard their baby crying. She told Tubridy on 2fm how it was nearly 48 hours later before she saw her baby.
"I thought he was so cute, I was roaring crying," she said. "It was just overwhelming."
