I know that one day I will turn around and you will be all grown up, but for now, on the eve of Mother's Day, I want to capture this moment; this moment when you are taking your first faltering steps, crashing into everything and getting bumps and bruises. I want to reach out and stop you when I see your big old Frankenstein steps heading towards a fall, but I know that you need to learn how to do stuff on your own, too.

It feels like yesterday and yet so long ago since you were tiny and I was afraid you'd break. My God -- changing your nappy was such a production, I didn't know which way was up! Some parts of motherhood are instinctive, such as knowing when you are hungry or in pain, but packing a changing bag or making up bottles is not.

It's funny how you are so young and yet so obviously a real boy. Not fragile and delicate but tough and a bit crazy -- a chip off the old block!

It never ceases to amaze me how you can so strongly tell me what you want or need with no words needed; there's no doubt when you don't like your dinner. It ends up on the wall or, better still, on me! I do try, but I won't be challenging Rachel Allen to a cook-off anytime soon.

During the day, I live in a world of celebrity and fashion, but when I arrive to pick you up from the crèche, all that is put to one side and my identity changes from producer to being your mum. Your cheeky little face always makes me smile and, without a doubt, being your mum is the best part of my day. Marcus, you rock my world.

Love mum xxx
