Published 15/07/2014 | 02:30

The advantages of
breast feeding

  • The mother is less likely to develop breast and ovarian cancers, as well as osteoporosis
  • It saves money on equipment and formula, as well as saving time
  • It uses up to 500 calories a day
  • The baby is less likely to develop asthma and
eczema
  • They're also less likely to develop ear, nose and throat infections

The advantages of
formula feeding

  • Parents can monitor exactly how much their baby is consuming
  • Babies are fuller and so need fewer feeds and sleep for longer
  • Mothers have greater freedom, and fathers can help out
  • Formula has added vitamin K, which otherwise has to be supplemented
  • Some mothers prefer to bottle feed when out in public or with friends
