Half of mums are involved in work-related activities during maternity leave

One in two Irish mothers are involved in work related activities during maternity leave, according to new research.

Surprisingly, 52pc of mothers have said they have been involved in work in some way or another during their maternity leave, responding to phone calls from colleagues, checking their emails and keeping up to date with company goings on to stay relevant.

Almost 25pc of mothers on maternity leave have had a phone conversation with a colleague about work during their leave, while 24pc say they check and respond to emails during that time.

The study, conducted by SMA Nutrition, surveyed 996 working mothers about their maternity leave experiences.

The research also found that almost half (46pc) of women admitted to being anxious about telling their employer about their pregnancy, however 91pc said they felt supported by their colleagues after making the announcement.

The study also revealed that 64pc of mums believe motherhood improved their work performance in terms of time management and effeciency.
